Visit Boca Chita Key and learn about the park!(This trip is currently not operating due to Covid-19 restrictions, others trips are)
Each guided tour lasts approximately three hours and includes opportunities to explore and learn about popular and scenic Boca Chita Key and Biscayne Bay. Climb the lighthouse (must be at least 42″ tall), explore the island, and hike the trail (mosquitoes are prevalent on the trails in the summer). Staff engage you with the history of the park and why mangroves, seagrasses, and hardbottom habitiats are all vital to the health of the local ecosystems. We want to share all the beauty this area has to offer and show how we can be good stewards of the National Park, preserving its unique habitats for generations to come.
This trip is on an open boat that is partially shaded. On breezy days expect some wind blown spray.
Our 40-passenger boat has an ADA compliant Ramp and you can walk on the island. It is flat with resting spots along the way. It is much less busy on weekdays if you can come then. Let you captain know when you arrive if you may need the ramp.
Locations and Trips:
Boca Chita Key tours depart from the Dante Fascell Visitor Center. Trips motor east across Biscayne Bay to Boca Chita Key on our USCG Inspected powerboat. Advance reservations are advised for this tour. Walk-ins and groups are welcome provided that the trip is not full.
There is a picnic pavilion and a small beach on the island along with bathrooms. We have drinking water available, please bring a refillable container to minimize trash. Our boats are rigged with shade, but there are also additional areas where you can relax in the sun. There are no guest sales on the island, please stock up at the Park store before leaving the visitor center.
